چکیده

Soil contamination by nuclear accidents has led to a resurgence of interest in microberadionuclide interactions. Soil fungi accumulate radioactive elements from contaminated soil, and it has been hypothesized that this may alter the availability of radionuclides to plants and alter their movement in particular areas. This study intended to demonstrate how soil saprotrophic fungi accumulated Cs and Sr isotopes in both stable and radioactive solution forms. An experiment to determine the tolerance of fungal growth under extremely inhibitory concentrations of Cs and Sr stable isotopes was conducted. The results showed that fungal cells were more sensitive to Cs than to Sr. Accumulations of Cs and Sr were examined through sorption mechanisms using resting cells in the solutions under various conditions. The sorption capacity was indirectly determined by analysing the elements, which decreased in the solution. The equilibrium data were fitted with sorption isotherms to show the best fit with the Langmuir isotherm for both elements, assuming that the sorption sites form a surface monolayer. In addition, pH was examined to investigate its effect on the sorption capacity of Cs and Sr.

Adsorption of Cesium, Strontium, and Rubidium radionuclides in the Mag-molecular process: The influence of important factors

In this study, the adsorption of cesium, strontium, and rubidium radionuclides by ferritin magmolecules in a batch system was investigated under different experimental conditions. The experiments were conducted in a pilot plant that involved the contactor unit and the magnetic separator unit. The impact of the pollutant concentrations, adsorbent concentration, and pH on the efficiency of the pr...

Synergistic Accumulative Effects between Exogenous Salicylic Acid and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungus in Pistachio (Pistacia Vera cv. Abareqi) Seedlings under Drought Stress

This study was conducted to determine the combined effects of salicylic acid (SA) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Glomus mosseae) symbiosis on the growth of pistachio seedlings (Pistacia vera ‘Abareqi’) grown in the greenhouse under different drought stress (DS) levels. The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) colonization or exogenous SA treatment could increase ‘Abareqi’ pistachio seedl...

Heavy Metals Tolerance Potential of Fungi Species Isolated from Gold Mine Tailings in Ghana

Introduction: Heavy metal contamination has necessitated a less expensive and non-destructive clean-up technique such as mycoremediation. This study aimed to isolate, identify, and evaluate the tolerance of fungi species in different concentrations of heavy metals for their potential use in bioremediation. Materials and Methods: Fungi were isolated by serial dilution and spread plate technique...

Correction: Absorption of Radionuclides from the Fukushima Nuclear Accident by a Novel Algal Strain

Large quantities of radionuclides have leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the surrounding environment. Effective prevention of health hazards resulting from radiation exposure will require the development of efficient and economical methods for decontaminating radioactive wastewater and aquatic ecosystems. Here we describe the accumulation of water-soluble radionuclides ...

Exploration of food materials and components showing the suppressing effect on absorption of strontium and the promoting effect on excretion of cesium in vivo

In March 2011, enormous radioactive materials, mainly 137Cs, 129I, 90Sr and so on were released from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after The Great East Japan Earthquake. Tap water, raw milk, vegetables, mushrooms, fruit, nuts, seaweed, marine invertebrates, fish, beef, wild animal meat, brown rice, wheat, tea leaves and other foodstuffs were contaminated by many radionuclides. In pa...
